Rich is the proud founder and musical director of R’ Voices, a thriving inclusive community choir based in North London. With a background spanning over 20 years as a vocal coach, musical director, and composer for film and theatre, Rich brings a wealth of experience and passion to every session.
But for Rich, it’s not about building the biggest or best choir — it’s about creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and free to express themselves through music. “The best work I do is with the choirs. Some people come to find their voice, others just want to switch off, sing, and be part of something — and that’s more than enough.”
Now in its 10th year, ‘R’ Voices has grown into a vibrant, welcoming community. There are no auditions, no uniforms, no choreography — just real people, real voices, and a shared love of singing. “Whether you’re at the front or tucked away in the back with your hands in your pockets, it’s fine by me!”
Each session blends vocal technique, interpretation, and harmony with humour, heart, and connection. “It’s not karaoke, and it’s not school. It’s about learning to sing well, with feeling — and having fun doing it.”
For Rich, the essence of the choir is the human connection. Singing together can release stress, build confidence, and remind us that we’re not alone in what we’re feeling. “We sing through our joys and struggles, and sometimes we even sing our troubles away — for a little while, or maybe forever.”
And when the singing ends, there’s the pub after, local fundraisers, gigs, parties, the infamous karaoke fundraisers and packed-out festivals.
“What’s not to love?”
